P&W-Kimball Scene -1
- Here is the first of many parts of a very long scene from Peter and the Wolf as animated by Ward Kimball. There are some 500 drawings to the scene, so it’ll take a while for me to post them all. However, I’ll do it about 50 at a time where I can find natural breaks in the motion.
Kimball was flying high and loose at this time, and his animation is a lot of fun to look at. The scene is all on one’s, and the inbetweener had a lot to do. This scene is very clean, so I’m not sure how much of the actual artwork is actually Kimball’s.
Many thanks to John Canemaker for the loan of this artwork.

The following QT movie represents the drawings in this post.
I exposed all drawings on ones.
Right side to watch single frame.
Come back next week for Part 2.

These drawings are beautiful and move so smoothly and fluidly. I’ve never seen “Peter and the Wolf,” but this nicely done Ward Kimball animation has me interested.

Though it certainly is great animation, I think that Dave the inbetweener could have done a better job on the moving hold up in the air… Look at the feet on 28! They change shape and size! I feel quite certain that this was not on purpose (there are no indications as such on the keys either). Interesting!

You’re right, Hans. I did notice quite a bit of shape shifting throughout – especially hands and feet.
