PK&A Studio Gags
- Bill Peckmann sent me this group of Gag Drawings from his days of working with Phil Kimmelman and Ass. I thought the drawings had so much life and interest, that I wanted to share them. The unfortunate part of studio gags is that the life behind the gag is usually something that we can’t even understand – outside of that studio’s atmosphere. However, at times the drawing is so much fun, it makes up for it. That’s true here, I think.

These are wonderful–a piece of behind-the-scenes animation history where so much talent was clustered into one studio. A fun aspect is that it hints at the projects they were working on at the time as well as the influences. It’s a real bonus to see Bill Peckmann’s awesome drawings showcased.
That the gags are part of an “in” studio joke almost doesn’t matter–it contributes an air of mystery! (But it would be fun to learn the identities behind the caricatures.)
