Rowland Wilson’s Whites – 2
I posted part of Rowland B. Wilson‘s book, The Whites of Their Eyes, two weeks ago. (Go here to see that post.) This book was published in 1962 by Dutton and displays in B&W many of the Wilson cartoons up to that time. The display is not always glorious, but it is the only printed copy of any of his panel cartoons. Consequently, we have to be grateful for what we have.
These cartoons are xeroxed copies from Bill Peckmann‘s large collection of Rowland’s work. I’m grateful for his loan of these illustrations to post here.

Holy Cow, these are incredibly good. Wilson had a terrific sense of composition. Thanks for posting these.

Eric, Rowland cut his teeth, earned his stripes as an art director for Y & R Adv. Agency in NYC in the ’50′s, the composition and staging for ads that he learned there did him well as he moved on to gag cartoons and later animation. A lot of art directors at Y & R from that period in time went on to bigger and better things.

Well, no wonder he’s so good at staging things. Well, I am going to have to study these so that I can get better at composition. Thanks for the information Bill.
