Lou Myers
- I’ve been a fan of the panel cartoonist, Lou Myers, for ever. His work makes me laugh. His drawing style looks like art to me, and that makes me laugh, too. He has a numbner of books on the market that collect his cartoons.
His book, Absent & Accounted For, is a good sampling of his work. I pulled it off my shelf last week and it got me laughing. So I thought I’d give you a few of the cartoons in the book. It’s a gem, published in 1980. Lots of therapists and sex jokes. Here are some of the therapy gags.

Some of Lou Myers other books include:
When Life Falls It Falls Upside Down, Christmas Favorites, Ha Ha Ha Hyenas, and Tutti Frutti.

Good for you! Myers was one of the funniest cartoonists ever. He also had one of the shortest art careers ever. If I’m not mistaken, he dropped cartooning to become a writer. i read part of a novel he wrote. It was okay, but not up to the standard of his artwork.

I always loved Lou Myers’ stuff. The view of 42 St (12) perfectly captures the antic raunchy ambience, especially that girlie mutoscope parlor! He really had fun with sex and psychology; his haphazard doodling style looked so spontaneous, impulsive, as if he were doing stand-up with perfect timing.
Thanks, Michael

His novel is superb. Really, among the finest books I’ve read. Funny, but dry. Not dry; astringent.
As for his cartoons: his line is in itself a marvel.
