Witch
- It’s not always easy to kill a witch. This sequence from Snow White couldn’t be designed better. It’s short, it’s tense, it’s a tight sequence that handily does its job. The witch is killed in record time. Today, the sequence would be dragged out for half the length of the film.
Some of these drawings are great.

A very nice segment! All too often, the images you see are the cute ones and not from this part of the film.
Thanks for posting them…

You ain’t kidding about how long such sequences would be in today’s features. While I enjoyed Monsters, Inc.. Toy Story 2, etc… I always settle in for some fatigue when the 30 minute epic chase/conclusion starts in those films… Its as if every animated feature needs to recreate a rollercoaster ride these days… but, an actual rollercoaster ride is brief and that’s part of its appeal.

Wow! The close up of the Queen is amazing! I forgot about the buzzards descending to feed on her at the end. Truly haunting.

Excellent storyboards! The staging and lighting are like a Murnau film; the mood is very thrilling and dramatic. Drawing no. 37 has something of Hieronymus Bosch about it.

Jaw-dropping.
I’d love to know who drew what here…probably there’s no ID at all from the morgue’s records.
A couple of the drawings do look like they could be Fred Moore’s(or an incredible facsimile). If so, Fred worked over another person’s layout of the rocks etc., I’d think.
Wouldn’t many of these double as workbook drawings?
The closeups are really something else..these guys were just amazing. Don’t you wish we could tell them so? Though I suppose they got a hell of a satisfaction in this being such a monster hit–critically and otherwise.

The compositions in this sequence are great – I suspect that kind of dramatic tension in the frame would be harder to achieve in a wider format than Academy ratio.
