Ken Hultgren artwork
Ken Hultgren was an animator who worked for Disney during the height of the animal artistry that went on in the studio through the making of Bambi. Ken was a brilliant draftsman whose work was turned into a couple of beautiful drawing books after the finish of Bambi. It’s certaily worth pursuing the couple of books he produced. They all vary enormously and show off his flagrant abilities as an anmal artist.

Breathtaking! I really love the hatching technique on a lot of these Hultgren drawings.

Very interesting! From his credit on “Bambi” I assumed he only did “realistic” animal drawings, but I see he had many different drawing styles at his disposal.
Then, after “Bambi”, he doesn’t turn up again at Disney until “Sleeping Beauty” nearly two decades later, where he mostly animates scenes of the Prince on horseback.

He did TONS of funny animal strips for comic books like GIGGLE & HA-HA, and he did that Dell BAMBI comic Michael ran a little while ago.

I love these so much! Particularly that coy lion and horse with the goofy grin. So detailed yet ‘cartoony’ at once.
